Skulanov and Formula K, winners of round 1 of the WSK Master Series
After having finished second in the WSK Champions Cup held last week at the Adria Karting Raceway in Italy, the young driver Gerasim Skulanov, dominates with complete confidence the opening race of the Super Master Series at the wheel of a Formula K chassis in the 60 Mini category, thus taking the top step of the podium.
The Formula K racing season had a fantastic start. After the excellent second place in the previous week in the WSK Champions Cup’s year opening race, Gerasim Skulanov (Formula K Serafini Junior Team ASD), took the victory in the first round of the 2020 WSK Super Master Series, held once again at the Adria Karting Raceway track.
The young Russian driver and his IP Karting equipment were amongst the central characters of the weekend, which was raced in a constant crescendo. After an 11th place in the qualifications, in fact, Skulanov achieved a victory and two second spots in the qualifying heats, in addition to having the best lap time. Even if only by one point, the 11th place in the last heat prevented him from getting the prefinals pole position. Starting from the front row, however, Skulanov led a strong race, taking the lead for 5 laps and giving way only towards the end to the Japanese racer Nakamura.
In the finals, Skulanov, from the very beginning, immediately took action from the second row, taking the lead right in the first lap. The competition, though, was quite intense, with several passes and counter passing’s until the end of the race. During the second to the last lap, the Formula K driver lost his leadership once again, but remained focused on the objective and returned to the leadership during the last lap, proving to be one of the most exciting stages of the race. Thanks to these results, Skulanov validated the excellent quality and competitiveness of the IPK equipment while getting himself to the top of the provisional championship standings.
Together with Skulanov, two other Formula K drivers were on the track, Artemii Troitskii and Mika Abrahams. The first one had the misfortune of being the first of the unqualified drivers in the prefinals, while the second, although starting from the back, raced a very good prefinal race, climbing up 9 positions.
The next race for the Formula K drivers will be in Lonato, Italy, at the South Garda Karting circuit from the 13th to the 16th of February for the traditional Winter Cup race.
